WWE SummerSlam predictions

With WWE’s second biggest pay-per-view right around the corner, let’s take a look at how I think the card will shake out (then let’s all laugh on Sunday night when most of my predictions are proven wrong). And as a reminder, the new WWE 50 book details WWE’s expansion into pay-per-view back in the mid 1980s.

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz, Intercontinental Championship

Despite Ziggler’s renewed energy level, I don’t see a scenario where it would make sense to put the title on him now, especially with the amount of TV time The Miz has been getting of late. I just can’t imagine the WWE saying to themselves, “Hey, let’s give Miz this new character, put the IC Title on him, and build him up just so Ziggler can come in and knock him down.” Doing that puts everybody, including the title, back at square one. Winner: The Miz

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

Chris Jericho gets it. He knows exactly how the sports-entertainment circle of life works, and his role within it. At this point in his career, he’s not in it for the wins. He’s doing his part to help get younger Superstars over. I see this as Wyatt’s coming-out party. Expect a clean win over Y2J without Erick Rowan and/or Luke Harper at ringside. Winner: Bray Wyatt

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

This is among the toughest matches on the card to predict. I don’t think anybody saw Swagger’s enormous popularity coming, and those within WWE may now be wondering if they should capitalize on it. In the end, however, I think they’ll remember why they started this rivalry to begin with: To keep Rusev strong leading into an even bigger challenge (Cena?). Winner: Rusev

Paige vs. AJ Lee, Divas Championship

I could watch these two compete on every card. One of the ways to ensure that happens is to put the title on Paige. Because as we all know, unless you’re Randy Orton, a champion who loses the title gets a rematch. Winner: Paige

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

Production on Ambrose’s new movie, Lockdown, reportedly begins this month. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Ambrose will be needed this month, but it does mean that he’ll likely be MIA sooner than later. With that in mind, a Rollins win here makes a lot of sense. Winner: Seth Rollins

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

A win over Reigns wouldn’t necessarily do much for Orton at this point in his career. It’s not like it would catapult him to a whole new level, en route to a new and promising career as a perennial main-eventer. A Reigns victory over Orton, on the other hand, would do all that and more as WWE embarks on the highly-rumored plan of making the former Shield member the next face of the company. Winner: Roman Reigns

Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Stephanie McMahon in recent months, it’s that she isn’t afraid to look silly if it means making the other person in the ring look good. In this case, however, I see Stephanie walking away with the win. WWE has invested way too much time in this rivalry for it to end at SummerSlam. And in order for it (or any rivalry) to continue, the “good guy” needs to be presented with another hill to climb. I expect that to happen to Brie at SummerSlam. Winner: Stephanie McMahon

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena, WWE World Heavyweight Championship

You don’t let Lesnar end Undertaker’s streak unless you plan on pushing him to the moon. Losing his first match since beating Undertaker isn’t exactly pushing Lesnar to the moon (or even the clouds). I could, however, see a situation where Lesnar destroys Cena to the point where the referee has no choice but to disqualify Lesnar. That would allow for Seth Rollins to come in and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, while also keeping Lesnar strong. But that seems a little convoluted for a SummerSlam main event. Let’s keep this one simple: Winner: Brock Lesnar

My predictions are the same as yours except for Ambrose vs Rollins as I think Ambrose will win and then face Rollins for the MITB briefcase at Night Of Champions.
Also, don’t you think that it would be awesome if Paige pins AJ after a Go To Sleep?

    • I can see your Ambrose vs. Rollins prediction happening. Though, usually I don’t like when Superstars put their Money in the Bank contract on the line, mainly because I already paid money to see him win it in a match. It’s not like it’s a championship that fans know will change hands. It’s a contract that should only belong to the winner of the match that fans paid to see. Enjoy the show tonight.

Thank you, sir. I’m waiting to know your feedback.
